Our conversations start with okasan (mom) which quickly pivots to her hometown, reflecting on our visits there in the 80’s and 90’s. Some Japanese terms used in the podcast:
Goemon-buro (五右衛門風呂)- a bathtub made of cast iron which is built on top of a stove. It is usually deeper compared to modern Western-style bathtubs, allowing the bather to immerse themselves more fully in hot water. Traditionally, these baths were heated by a wood or charcoal fire built underneath the tub.
Obachan (おばあちゃん)- Grandma
