How lucky are we to have a listener as this week's guest??? Yes, in this incredibly special episode of Songmess, Rich and Bev are joined by Iván Orellana, a long time listener and new friend to the show. Iván reached out several weeks ago to share some of his favorite jams from his native Ecuador and the list was so overwhelmingly fantastic we had no choice but to invite him on the show!
Iván is a musician and educator based in NYC, co-founder of local band La Huerta and an overall kindhearted human. With roots firmly planted in the mountainous city of Cuenca, Iván brought a list of songs that shaped his upbringing, represent the cultural and racial diversity of the Ecuadorian people, and also lend insight into the country's bright musical future.
This is beyond a doubt one of our favorite episodes to date, so we're also extending an invitation to other listeners to come on the show and share your stories, experiences and dope musical taste with us! We'll see all you bbs soon!
Featured Artists: Río Mira, Sobrepeso, Cruks en Karnak, La Madre Tirana, Rocola Bacalao, Mano Negra, Swing Original Monks, Grupo Marabú, Sudakaya, André Farra, Mateo Kingman + Guanaco, and Ataw Allpa.
