Christine Jorgensen grew up in the Bronx, where she became keenly aware of a fact many people couldn't understand: she was a woman trapped in a boy's body. After serving in WWII, she still couldn't shake the feeling that she was a woman, and flew to Europe to have gender affirmation surgery. When she returned to the US, she became an overnight sensation, as people across the country became fascinated with the "Boy Who Became a Girl!"
