Luke 11:33-36
December 11, 2022

Main Point: We glorify God by using our eyes to bring good light to our souls.

Illuminating our souls with our eyes means:

1. People around us are blessed.

  • Luke 11:33 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
  • Matthew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
  • Philippians 2:14-15Do all things without [a]complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

2. Having to be intentional about good.

  • Luke 11:34aThe lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light.
  • Job 31:1“I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?
  • Hebrews 12:2alooking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
  • Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

3. We guard them against evil.

  • Luke 11:34bBut when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
  • Matthew 5:28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • 1 John 2:15-16Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
