This is an episode EVERY PARENT who has kids that struggle needs to listen to! Dr. Nicole Beurkens has an incredibly unique and vast background to support and assist families. She has advanced degrees in education, child psychology and nutrition. She is a holistic psychologist and focuses on the whole child in treating mental health and neurodiverse challenges.
In this episode Dr. Beurkens is so reassuring and empowering of parents who have kids that struggle. She shares that none of the issues our kids are facing are our fault and parents are given much more blame than they deserve. The systems are set up really to disempower parents and give the power to the so called experts. She wants parents to feel they have the knowledge and power to work WITH the professionals because they are the expert on their child. We can feel confident in our ability to collaborate with the professionals to help our child and figure out an effective treatment plan to get the best results possible. She shares how important it is to look at the whole child to get to the root issue. Looking for physical health issues, nutrition etc to find out what is causing some of these challenges is key especially if nothing else is effective.
