This weeks my guest is Joy Montoya, MS, CHES Fire Captain of the West Jordan Fire Department. I sit down and have a very candid talk with Joy about being a first responder. The statistics are staggering. More first responders die by suicide than in the line of work. In fact 15.5% of firefighters have attempted suicide at least once during their career. We talk about their high workplace stress, dramatic calls, poor sleep quality, and other things that play into this statistic. We talk about losing co-workers to suicide, and the high amount of suicides calls she has been called out on. This is a much needed conversation for us to have.
