1 in 10 Million: the story of Dave Jackson

 A while back, I got handed a piece of paper with an article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

It was written by a Yankee newspaperman named Ray Sprigle.  Whom I have never heard of…

And it was about a black farmer here in Cook County named David Jackson…whom I also had never heard of…

The article was about how Mr. Jackson owned and farmed nearly 1000 acres of land here. How he had been penniless just 20 years before.  But how now he owned stock in a newly formed bank here in town.  And several commercial buildings and properties throughout Adel.
 
 All of that is remarkable enough for ANY man really…I can’t name a handful of men that can make those same claims…that have accomplished that much in their lives.  

BUT…, when I saw the date of the story was 1948…the height of Jim Crow….and segregation…and before the civil rights movement had faced its first real battle…
 
 I was floored...and began digging...
