Her initial foray into integrative practices began out of necessity, sharing wellbeing practices with patients and witnessing remarkable improvements. This experience led her to a distinguished tenure at the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Center for Integrative Medicine, fostering her belief in a care approach that honors the whole person. A personal crisis with her daughter’s health further shaped her perspective, highlighting the necessity of a truly integrated approach that marries the best of conventional medicine with evidence-supported complementary methods. This realization propelled her to specialize in palliative medicine, aiming to heal lives when curing disease isn't an option. Founding the Integrative Palliative Institute, Dr. Chiaramonte now seeks to train clinicians in integrative palliative care, emphasizing the importance of clinician wellbeing to prevent compassion fatigue. Her mission is clear: to train 1,000 clinicians by 2030, ensuring patients receive care that is as compassionate as it is comprehensive.
