On Friday, May 24th, Los Angeles Football Club (10-4-1)earned a 4-2 home victory against the Montreal Impact. The black and gold played 60+ minutes of fantastic soccer, establishing a 4-0 lead highlighted by Carlos Vela's 15th goal of the season, as well as firsts of 2019 from Latif Blessing and Triston Blackmon.
However, for the first time this season, the team lost control of a match in the latter stages. LAFC surrendered an own goal and penalty in the final 25 minutes of the second half, evoking shades of a troublesome 2018 trend. The team will look to get back on point in the final match before the Gold Cup mid-season break, but have a tough task: they will face the Portland Timbers in the team's (VERY) long awaited home opener.
LAFC writer-at-large Ryan Wallerson, & Alex Dwyer of MLSsoccer.com break down LAFC's performance against Montreal and preview Saturday's match against the Timbers in Portland. They also discuss the U.S. Open Cup draw that will see LAFC face Real Salt Lake in Rio Tinto on June 11th or 12th (TBD)
