Intro: Welcome to this sermon in our series on prayer. Today, we're joined by Glenn Power and Donna Jordan (long-time YWAM missionary) to discuss how communication and connection with God truly work. Moving beyond theory, we're having an honest talk about hearing God's voice, aiming to help you find greater joy and intimacy in your prayer life. Donna shares her journey from finding prayer meetings boring to making listening to God her life's message.

Key Points:

  1. Hunger Leads to Hearing: Donna's journey began when she encountered people asking God specific questions and receiving answers, igniting a hunger for more than just academic or casual faith.
  2. Lordship is Foundational: A pivotal moment was making Jesus not just Savior, but Lord – committing to obey whatever He asked. This changed everything.
  3. Hearing vs. Listening: Hearing can be passive or even experienced by the unsaved. Listening is an active, ongoing posture of the heart, seeking to tune into the Holy Spirit throughout the day.
  4. Four Levels of Acquaintance: Academic (knowing about God), Casual (inconsistent connection), Hungry (wanting more), Intimacy (walking and talking with God daily).
  5. Testing What You Hear: How do you know it's God?
    • Does it align with Scripture?
    • Does it bring you closer to Jesus?
    • Is there a witness (peace/confirmation) in your spirit and potentially in trusted fellow believers?
  6. Discerning Voices: Learn to distinguish God's voice from your own thoughts, the voice of others (fear of man, expectations), and the enemy. Submit your thoughts to the Holy Spirit.
  7. Practical Steps:
    • Start your day declaring love for Jesus and listening.
    • Submit your mind to the Spirit, silence other voices, command the enemy to leave.
    • Ask God questions (e.g., "What do you think/feel about me?") and write down what you sense.
    • Walk in faith, practice, and seek confirmation in community when needed.
  8. For Everyone: Hearing God isn't just for "elite" Christians. Like a loving father, God speaks to all His children. We just need to learn to listen. Obedience, even when costly (like leaving home for YWAM), deepens intimacy.

Conclusion: Relationship requires two-way communication. God desires intimacy with each of us, speaking in ways we can understand. It starts with making Him Lord, cultivating a listening posture, testing what we hear, and walking in faith and obedience. Don't be discouraged; recognize His quiet voice and grow in confidence.

Call to Action: This week, practice listening. Start your day simply: "Jesus, I love you." Then ask Him, "What do you think about me?" Write down what you sense, trusting by faith that He is speaking. Share with a trusted friend if needed.
