1. The Cleveland Guardians had a strong weekend winning three out of four from the Minnesota Twins, reducing their magic number to 15. I saw a lot of takes about enjoying losing in the first round. This struck me as very odd from Twins fans in particular for quite a few reasons. We talk about some history and why I think this Guardians team will be no fun for many teams this postseason.
2. There are four games to discuss so we start right out talking about Friday’s game. The Guardians were big winners by coming back to beat the only consistent reliever in the Twins pen this year. I explain why I can be excited about Myles Straw’s better play and still be ready to move on from other players. A big part of it is due to how much time is left on contracts and who is waiting in the wings. I then get into the Shane Bieber performance that led to a significant victory for Guardians in game one.
3. We come back and talk about the promotion of Carlos Vargas, and get into why it was a weird one. Why it makes sense, and also why he is the pitcher of last resort for this team. We talk about the long win on Saturday, which saw a trio of the best arms on this team give up three runs. In contrast, Konnor Pilkington gave up one hit in nearly six innings. We talk about the game tomorrow, and why I am not concerned about the next few days. I expect the Guardians to play well, but they have also set themselves up in case they don’t.
