We sleep for about 1/3 of our lives. However, sleep deprivation affects most resident physicians and many practicing health providers during their career. In this episode, Dr. Robert Rowe speaks with Dr. Nathan Walker, MD, assistant professor of neurology, sleep medicine physician, and sleep medicine fellowship director at UNC. Nathan briefly explains his journey to sleep medicine. They dive into what constitutes “good sleep,” the definition and prevalence of sleep deprivation, and how to create the ideal environment. They close part 1 of the conversation discussing caffeine, noise machines, and how you can bank sleep (sort of) before long shifts.
