Hello listeners, this week we talked to Lauren Villa.
Lauren is a writer/artist/creative/social justice and mental health advocate/ and co-founder of One Million Wild Hearts (OMWH) - a project that captures the realities of being a womxn creative and documents these lived experiences through interviews.
The mission of OMWH is to increase the visibility of womxn’s* experiences and identities** and how it relates to their creation of art. They share womxn’s stories through interviews in order to 1.) advance womxn 2.) create community and 3.) deconstruct societal expectations.
Lauren is the co-creator of There’s Room For All of Us Here, a documentary that explores the diverse experience of being a womxn and an artist in 2017. The voices of womxn creatives must be documented and uplifted. The film is meant to inspire womxn, especially womxn of color. They dive into intersectionality and how womxn's many identities, mental health, and environment affect the creation of art in the present day. They talk to artists about relationships, politics, money, and navigating the world as a creative.
