1. The focus of our first segment is on the disastrous seventh inning which saw the Guardians load the bases with no outs and not manage to get a single run across. The Guardians let three of the bottom 100 hitters in the MLB by wRC+ hit and they failed to get the ball out of the infield. We get into why the focus on platoon splits and the fear of a mediocre lefty reliever of the Twins were not good reasons to not pinch-hit. We also get into the roster construction issues that made it hard to pinch hit for Ernie Clement even though by wRC+ he is the least productive hitter the Guardians have.
2. Next, we get deeper into the game itself. The pitching was spectacular, and this was the best start we have seen from Zach Plesac this year and his fourth strong start in a row. The only way that a hitter reached base in this game more than once was due to being hit by a pitch, the offense had chances but could not get a run across so a very winnable game and potential sweep did not occur.
3. We discuss potential trades that I have been asked about involving Wilson Contreras and Pablo Lopez. We discuss why the Guardians should be looking to make a 3 or 4 for one trade just due to the depth in the system. It is better to slightly overpay now than lose for nothing later.
