Comments are one of the engagement factors the Instagram algorithm analyses to gauge the success of a post (others include likes, shares, and saves). If a post has a good engagement rate, it's an indicator that your content is keeping people on the platform.

When your content is keeping people on the platform the algorithm is going to want to push it to a wider audience so that it can show more ads and make more money!
