On today’s very special episode of Songmess we are putting a spotlight on Chicago with special guest Richard Juarez aka Mán Cub. The Puerto Rican and Mexican singer-songwritter stopped by the studio while on a family trip to Mexico and we couldn’t help but get into his time in the music business hustle, cutting his teeth in a series of rock bands and trying to get his own solo work off the ground.

We have shouted out Chicago numerous times on the show thanks to remarkable talents like Divino Niño and Tatiana Hazel, and Mán Cub is very much a part of this crop of emerging musicians redefining Latin identity in indie music. Today’s conversation touches on everything from Mán Cub’s unusual name to the different artists who’ve lent him a hand on the way up. The playlist also highlights some of the most exciting young names the Windy City has to offer at the moment, and for more detailed references we highly recommend Richard’s list of emerging Chicago acts that was published in Remezcla a few months ago.
