Luke 12:35-48, February 05, 2023

Main Point: We glorify God when we live ready for the return of our Lord Jesus.

Being ready for our Lord’s return means:

1. We eagerly expect Him.

  •  Luke 12:35-36a “Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; 36 and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master,
  • Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
  • John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
  • Acts 1:11  who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

2. We will be rewarded.

  • Luke 12:37 Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.
  • Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
  • Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
  • Revelation 22:12-13  “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me,to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the [a]Beginning and theEnd, the First and the Last.”

3. We live righteously.

  • Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?
  • 2 Peter 3:14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;
  • James 5:7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.
  • 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
