David's self-discipline is evident in this passage as he is given the opportunity once again to end the life of Saul, but instead he obeys God's Word and allows Saul to live. Rather than seeking the easy road or the short-cut, David knows his path to the throne must be one of discipline and obedience to God. Believers today ought to follow David's example.
