On this very special episode of Songmess we are delighted to bring you our interview with seminal Puerto Rican indie band Balún!
Today's show was recorded somewhere in Brooklyn at the Haus of Balún, where we got Angélica, José and Nora - three of the four dreambow darlings - to share some chismesitos indies with us. Buckle up because our conversations range from the lauded Boricua indie music scene, to the band's adventures through Bogotá for Hermoso Ruido, and the island's current path to recovery in the wake of devastating back-to-back hurricanes.
Our playlist today is also a bit different since Angélica brought a series of pieces by modern Latinx composers. So even though you will hear a few non-classical tracks mixed in, we encourage you to wear your finest attire as you listen to this incredible night at the Latin indie symphony. (Special production credit to cutie haus puppy Midi.)
In the same vein, both Angélica Negrón and Songmess will be performing live during New Latin Wave at Brooklyn Bazaar in Greenpoint this coming October 22nd. New Latin Wave is a multi disciplinary symposium that spotlights discussions and performances on music, visual arts, journalism, cuisine and independent publishing by Latinx creatives. Angélica will headline the music program with a 3pm performance of her solo work in the Brooklyn Bazaar Concert Hall, while we, Songmess, will record a live episode with guest band Breaking Forms in the Disco Room at 5:30 pm.
All links will be included below and we urge you to joins us IRL to keep this network of Latinx creativity growing!
