Los Angeles Football Club welcomed its supporters back to Banc of California Stadium for the first time in 2020 and lets face it, even if you didn't recognize every player that Bob sent out onto the pitch against Peñarol, that matters so much less when the black and gold are victorious!
LAFC's head coach took full advantage of his unlimited preseason substitutions; 26 players contributed to LAFC's 2-0 win over the Uruguayan club, including three Phoenix Rising FC players and six academy players(Dweezy officially wins the gentleman's bet from last week about seeing them in a match).
Before the mass substitutions at the start of the second half, Latif Blessing played well right back, Vela hit his first left footed goal of the new decade, Adrian Perez continued his strong start to the preseason with a goal, and Kenneth Vermeer had a successful LAFC debut.
After the match, Bob said that there is a lot to improve on, but the coaches were pleased on the night. Even by Bob's high standards, Saturday's match gave fans and coaches alike several reasons to smile.
Ryan Wallerson of the Los Angeles Daily News and Writer at Large (he said small, but we all know Dweezy is anything but) Alex Dwyer are joined by Tigers Supporter Group member and youth soccer coach Pierce Maher to talk about the Peñarol match, LAFC's first impressions in 2020 and mourn the passing of Kobe Bryant (It still feels so strange to say and read).
Rest In Peace Kobe, young Gianna and the seven other souls lost in that tragic helicopter crash.
