Omega Wars

Welcome to today’s podcast. I’m Chris McKay and I’m glad to have you along today because we’re going to be talking about a real battle that’s going on in our bodies right now and the outcome will depend on which Omega Fatty acids you are eating….. So what are these high stake Omega Wars?  Why are they happening?  Who’s the enemy and who’s the ally?  Does it really matter who wins?

Dr. Michael Pinkus

Our expert says yes and here to tell us more is Dr. Michael Pinkus. Dr. Pinkus is a nationally recognized chiropractor and a highly regarded authority on natural and alternative health.  He’s worked with top Hollywood celebrities, Professional and Olympic athletes and he continues to be involved in the latest research into today’s top health concerns.

So what are these Omega wars all about?

Omega Fatty acids are essential oils that your body needs in order to function. You body does not produce these on it’s own so it’s important to get these from our diets. There are different Omega Fatty Acids. Omega 3 are the helpful or the good Omegas. They are primarily found in seafood. Omega 6s come from plants and plant oils these are the fats that are used in junk food.

Balance of Omega 3 versus Omega 6

In general, we’re not getting enough Omega 3s in our diets and at the same time we’re getting too many Omega 6s.When you start adding more Omega 3s to your body you’re going to see and feel a difference.

The Fight for the Same Receptor Sites

Omega 3s and Omega 6s compete for the same landing site on the cell wall. The problem is even if you’re getting Omega 3s they may not be able to land at the proper receptor sites on the cell wall because of the overabundance of Omega 6s in your body.

Is this new or has it been going on for some time?

In a natural diet the ratio of Omega 6s to Omega 3s is about 2 to 1. Now, we’re seeing reports that show that same ratio as high as 30 to 1 and even 50 to 1. One impact of too much Omega 6 in the body is inflammation and inflammation is known as the root of all disease. Other ways too much Omega 6 impacts the body:

  • arthritis,
  • cholesterol problems,
  • cardiovascular problems,
  • skin problems,
  • cognitive problems,

Diets have changed, Omega 6’s are “hidden” in the foods we eat like mayo. (mayo nation) Even fish have less omega 3’s than they had 25 years ago based on the way they are fed and raised. Medicine is looking for cures but not finding cures. Medicine is not asking why there is inflammation in the body. People are looking for solutions and they are always asking how do I know if I need more Omega 3s. The quick answer is to look in your medicine cabinet and see what’s there and why you’re taking it. Generally, it’s due to a lack of nutrients in your diet.

How Do We Help the Allies? Supplement with Krill or a good Fish Oil

Krill Oil is pure and more potent than fish oil. It’s also the most absorbable Omega 3 because of the way it’s put together and comes from the Krill naturally. Fish oil is good if you can find a good one.

Make it a Habit

One of the most important things is to stay with it and make Omega 3 supplementation a habit.

Cut Down on Packaged Food

It’s difficult when you get tempted around the holidays or special events. Choice healthy snacks like apples, bananas, nuts etc...

Conclusion:

Omega 3s are very important for your brain, veins and because they reduce inflammation they’ll help you with your pain.
