Born and raised in Washington, DC, Akua shares how her unconventional upbringing helped to build her confidence and sense of pride in herself from a young age and how makeup wasn’t something that was a normal occurrence in her household. She shares how her love for beauty developed and what motivated her to pursue a career as a Makeup Artist.
After 7 years in the beauty industry, Akua spills the tea on all of the amazing opportunities that have boosted her career. Everything from assisting on a major beauty campaign shoot, working with R&B group Total for the Bad Boy Reunion Tour to becoming an educator and creating Friends in Beauty.
Akua also shares the importance of building genuine relationships in the beauty industry, being persistent, and following up. She encourages everyone to tell their stories to make connections with their audiences and provides action steps on how to do so.
