It is no secret that David is not a fan of the Yeti...

So David, why not the Yeti?

The Yeti is a condenser mic. Condenser mics are very sensitive to sound. This is great if you are in a sound-treated room or are recording sounds in nature- not so great if you are in a home studio. Condenser mics, like the Yeti, will pick up all the sounds happening inside and outside your home. You will hear the car driving by, the neighbor playing music, your child getting food out of the fridge, the dog barking, and even your a/c switching on.

Unless you have sophisticated editing software, you want to use a mike that won't be as sensitive to room noises. A dynamic cardioid mic is perfect for the home podcaster. A dynamic cardioid mic will only pick up your voice and will reject noises outside the cardioid pattern.
