Interview with Mohamed Kordofani director of Goodbye Julia, presented at the 76th Festival de Cannes in Un Certain Regard.
Goodbye Julia: Goodbye Julia, the first feature film of Mohamed Kordofani, is the story of the friendship between two women Julia and Mona, two completely different worlds, representation of the Northern and Southern communities of Sudan. The story takes place in Khartoum during the last years of Sudan as a united country but we soon discover that it is only an apparent unity since the cultural differences that make the political situation precarious permeate the film. Kordofani tells us why he decided to tell this story from a female point of view, and the importance to find a way for a new national identity. Since Goodbye Julia is the first Sudanese film presented at the Cannes Film Festival, we also asked Mohamed Kordofani about the situation of cinema in Sudan.
