In the 2nd episode of this Melting Pot Limited series in collaboration with the Singapore International Film Festival we talk to lead actor Daniyar Alshinov from Kazakhstan.

The journey Daniyar has taken into the world of film has been quite unique. Daniyar, who was unable to join the drama school right out of high school, first chose to study nuclear physics at a nearby college. He later quit in his second year of college to get an aerospace engineering degree.

Daniyar continued to pursue his artistic passion while actively attending local film auditions. Listen to the episode to know how he beautifully led his journey to live his dream of becoming an actor. He grew up in Kazakhstan in a family of teachers. After five years in the United States, he earned his aerospace engineering degree at Arizona State University and returned to his homeland.

Daniyar continued to actively participate in local film auditions while attempting to support himself as an engineer. At the age of 27, Daniyar finally landed his first acting role. Daniyar was successful in a variety of genres and dominated the local box office, but a new chapter began when he met the most distinctive Kazakh director, Adilkhan Yerzhanov. "A dark-dark man" was chosen for the official selection in San Sebastian and received an APSA award, and "Goliath" was chosen for the Venice edition of 2022. One of Daniyar's most recent projects was playing the lead in the Cannes-premiered French miniseries "Infiniti."

Catch our host Payal in conversation with Daniyar Alshinov as he walks us through the perks and challenges on the road of pursuing.

Daniyar's films Goliath and Assault will be screened at the 33rd edition of SGIFF.
