Is it possible to test your thyroid at home? The answer is yes.
If you watched the video you can download the free resource I mention in it here: https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/
The only problem with testing your thyroid at home is that the tests available are not quite as accurate as blood tests. Having said that they can still give you very important information.
My recommendation is to use these tests in conjunction with your lab tests to give you a better idea as to what is happening with your thyroid.
Here are the 4 ways you can test your thyroid at home:
#1. Check your symptoms.
The first thing you can do is check and monitor your symptoms! Your symptoms give you an idea as to how well your thyroid is working. The worse your symptoms are the worse your thyroid is. You can also check and monitor them over time.
#2. Check your basal body temperature.
Your body temperature tracks with thyroid function because your thyroid helps control and regulate about 60% of the heat your body produces. You can easily track your temperature each morning.
#3. Check your resting heart rate.
Your resting heart rate is also controlled (in part) by your thyroid gland. A low resting heart rate is an indication of a sluggish thyroid while a rapid heart rate is indicative of an overactive thyroid.
#4. The thyroid "swallow" test.
You can use this test to monitor the physical appearance of your thyroid. The only downside to this strategy is that it doesn't tell you how well your thyroid is working.
Other tests available:
#1. Thyroid function lab tests (requires a prescription from a doctor)
My recommendation is to ALWAYS get thyroid lab tests if they are available (see the video for the complete list of labs you need).
#2. Thyroid ultrasound (requires a prescription from a doctor)
A thyroid ultrasound can help you look at the physical characteristics of your thyroid gland but doesn't necessarily tell you how well it is functioning.
