I want to encourage you to rethink happiness. Consider that happiness is an emotion and not a state of being. There are quality states like being satisfied and being fulfilled that you can be in and not necessarily be happy. I can be a fulfilled person and still have every emotion because some situations call for happiness, some situations call for anger and some situation call for sadness. That doesn't mean I’m unfulfilled. Having happiness as a goal, having an emotion be the goal results in a lot of disappointment. It’s a high that's difficult to maintain. That expectation actually creates more stress in our lives. Instead of thinking about holding an emotion as the goal think of a quality state to be in. You can be in the quality state of being faithful. You can choose to have faith in the face of adversity even when you can't be happy.
