Every now and then, Jodi is going to break down a term in the book publishing world for you in a mini-episode. Today’s term is subsidiary rights (“sub rights”). Jodi shares that this means parts of your book that can be licensed to someone else and how they profit from it (this includes movie rights, new cover art, excerpts, and maybe even ebooks and audiobooks). If you’re working with a traditional publishing house, they may have a whole department that focuses just on your sub rights , which is a benefit. Jodi explains the cons as well.
