This text presents an interesting study as we see God's sovereign judgment and man's responsibility both on full display. David's sin necessitates the judgment of God on himself and on the children of Israel (as they had also sinned prior to this occasion); however, David knew that he was much better off in the merciful hands of God rather than in the hands of his enemies.
