Intro: Welcome! Today begins an 8-week sermon series focusing entirely on Jesus Christ. He is endlessly fascinating, the center of our faith, the source of life. As John wrote, the world couldn't contain books detailing all He did (John 21:25). Our goal isn't exhaustive study but to stir fresh awe, wonder, and love for Him, moving beyond simplistic caricatures to behold Him more clearly.
Key Points:
- Jesus: The Ultimate Reality: Jesus isn't just a historical figure or good teacher; He's the answer to life's deepest questions and longings. He is the difference-maker in history and our personal stories (rescue, forgiveness, healing, transformation).
- Jesus: Revealer of God: How do we know the invisible God? Jesus!
- Word Made Flesh (John 1:14): The eternal Word took on humanity, dwelling among us, revealing God's glory, full of grace and truth.
- Image of God (Col 1:15): He is the perfect visible representation of the invisible God.
- Radiance & Exact Representation (Heb 1:3): He perfectly reflects God's glory and nature. To see Jesus is to see the Father.
- Jesus: Creator, Sustainer, Reconciler (Col 1:16-20): All things were created through Him and for Him. He holds everything together. God's fullness dwells in Him, and through His cross, He reconciled all things back to God, making peace.
- Jesus: Prophet, Priest, King: He fulfills these key roles perfectly:
- Prophet: Speaks God's truth, reveals sin, calls us back to God.
- Priest: Mediates, intercedes, offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice, removing sin and giving us access to God.
- King: Rules over all creation and desires to reign in our lives, bringing freedom, peace, and order.
- Jesus Gives Us New Identity (John 1:12): His greatest gift? "To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." Through simple faith in Him, our core identity changes. We become beloved sons and daughters.
- Living as Daughters/Children: This identity is life-changing. We belong, we are loved unconditionally, we have a Father who hears us, cares for us, provides for us. We can run to Him without fear, knowing He delights in us. This reality frees us from striving and insecurity.
Conclusion: Jesus is incomparably glorious – the God-man, Creator, Sustainer, Reconciler, Prophet, Priest, King, and the One who makes us children of God. Knowing Him, truly encountering Him, changes everything and is the beginning of real life.
Call to Action: Spend time this week meditating on who Jesus is (use Col 1 or Heb 1). Ask the Holy Spirit for a fresh revelation of His glory. If you haven't already, receive Him by faith and embrace your identity as a child of God (John 1:12). Let the truth that you are God's beloved daughter/son sink deep into your heart.
