God would not be used as a lucky charm for the children of Israel to give them exactly what they thought they needed, but when His ark was placed in the temple of Dagon, He demonstrated over and over again that there is only one God, Yahweh. This story reminds us of the foolishness of all idols (those made by hands and those found in our hearts), and points us to the only one who is worthy of worship - Jesus Christ.
