Broc Martin is an Aboriginal man, a descendant of the Punthamara Mithika people from the area now known as Southwest Queensland, Australia. Broc coaches men to heal trauma guided by ancestral wisdom, drawing upon his experiences in overcoming life’s challenges. 

Intergenerational trauma manifests in numerous ways, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples are disproportionately overrepresented in prisons, child protection and poor health outcomes. Unfortunately, Broc’s story is not uncommon for Aboriginal people of this country, particularly men. The trauma of being removed from his family at the age of 7 into the foster care system, battling drug addiction and spending a significant amount of his young adulthood in prison. 

Broc’s heart lies in community, and he transformed his wounds into his brightest light and greatest strength through his life journey. Forever a student of life and truth seeker, Broc loves sharing what he has learnt and discovered for himself with others.

Broc was very open regarding the challenges he faced with physical and emotional abuse from a very young age and how that resulted in him moving to a life of crime to support his alcohol and drug habits. This resulted in Broc spending five years in prison from 18 after having several stints in Juvenile detention. 

Whilst in prison, he was fortunate to enter a drug rehabilitation program that ultimately enabled him to rehabilitate over time. This led to him returning to TAFE at 23 to complete years 10 - 12 and successfully completing a Diploma in health services. This remarkable journey has now shown him to be intimately connected with Indigenous peoples and serve them. This was a beautiful conversation, and there are so many more topics that we did not cover.
