We got a suggestion from our Friend to make a board that plugs onto the back of a NEMA stepper motor with one of these drivers (https://learn.adafruit.com/all-about-stepper-motors) which is a nifty idea that we've seen before (https://gitlab.cba.mit.edu/quentinbolsee/tmc2209-xiao-rp2040): you minimize wire length and EMI because the high current/high-frequency signal is only going a few cm.
Just watch out for your chip; you've got good heat sinking. There are standard sizes for steppers (https://learn.adafruit.com/all-about-stepper-motors), so let's check out what NEMA motors are available at DigiKey for us to model.
