When Ahithophel's advice was rejected by Absalom, bitterness finally drove Ahithophel to commit suicide. Bitterness is destructive - it destroys relationships, homes, people, and churches. God's people must learn to obey the words of Christ and recognize the wonder of forgiveness - the forgiveness God has granted them - so that they can forgive and drive out the root of bitterness within them.
