In this episode, Reed and I go back to the July 17 Podcasting 2.0 conversation that felt like the turning point for everything we’re doing now. We play through key clips, trace the rise and decline of Lightning inside Podcasting 2.0, and talk about how Candr really started: right as the bigger project was sounding discouraged, we were deciding to build anyway. We break down the old Sphinx → LNPay → Alby path, the shift away from Keysend, the cost of hosted nodes, and why so much of the “Lightning is dead” narrative comes down to business decisions, tooling gaps, and community momentum rather than the technology simply failing. From there, we get into what still matters to us: sovereignty, open protocols, community, and keeping the know-how alive. Reed makes the case that Lightning looks very different from a Bitcoiner’s vantage point than it does from the top of podcasting, and I argue that the real long-term unlock is separating messages and identity from payments so support can work across multiple rails. We also spend time on the funding tag, Nostr as a home for boost metadata, the tension between convenience and self-custody, and why building a real community matters more than chasing download counts or ad dollars. For us, this stuff isn’t dead — it’s in a rebuild phase, and we’re here for it.Podcasting 2.0: https://podcasting2.org/Podcast Namespace Specification: https://podcasting2.org/docs/podcast-namespace/1.0Podcasting 2.0 Funding Tag Guide: https://podcasting2.org/docs/guides/how-to-use-the-funding-tagPodcasting 2.0 Value Recipient Tag: https://podcasting2.org/docs/podcast-namespace/tags/value-recipientPodcasting 2.0 Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/podcasting-2-0/id1584274529Podcast Index GitHub Organization: https://github.com/Podcastindex-orgHelipad: https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/helipadLocal Bitcoiners: https://localbitcoiners.com/Boost Me Bitch: https://github.com/ChadFarrow/boostmebitchOnlyBoosts: https://onlyboosts.social/Bowl After Bowl Episode 448: https://bowlafterbowl.com/episodes/episode-448/Fountain: https://fountain.fm/Alby Hub: https://getalby.com/alby-hubNostr Wallet Connect (NIP-47): https://nostr.co.uk/nips/nip-47/Voltage: https://voltage.cloud/Voltage Self-Serve Sunset Post: https://voltage.cloud/blog/sunsetting-self-serveBuzzsprout Subscriptions: https://www.buzzsprout.com/subscriptionsBuzzsprout Support the Show Link: https://maintenancephase.buzzsprout.com/help/62-listener-support-linkSphinx Chat: https://www.sphinx.chat/Breez: https://breez.technology/Strike: https://strike.me/PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/Apple Pay: https://www.apple.com/apple-pay/
