Apparently I own a house...?? I recently stumbled upon the knowledge that someone using my full name and SSN bought a house while I was deployed in Iraq. This property is actually just 10 mins away from my current address.. and I am finally ready to buy a home. This is how I found all this out! What in the world should my first steps be?! Buyer came for the inspection and was outside talking with her realtor when my nosy/ gossiper neighbor came over to talk to them. Said neighbor then proceeds to tell lies about the other neighbors such as the house on the other side of mine is a "drug house" and there is someone who drives a Harley and carries a gun who always parks in front of my house. None of these things are true. The buyer, however, being an elderly woman who is moving into a home on her own, was absolutely terrified and ran into the house crying and screaming to cancel the sale. She rescinds her offer.
