Los Angeles Football Club were eliminated from the MLS is Back tournament by Orlando City SC in the quarterfinal of the competition. The Lions made a cinderella run to the final match before falling to the Portland Timbers. LAFC’s Floridian adventure didn’t pan out the way Bob Bradley and company wanted, but as the regular season restarts, the seven points that LAFC earned during the tournament’s group stage leave the club in good standing as it returns to play Saturday against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
LAFC dismantled the LA Galaxy 6-2 during the group stage of the MLS is Back tournament to earn three of the seven points collected in Orlando, but the Galaxy were without Jonathan Dos Santos and Javier Hernandez for that match. Chicharito won’t play in Saturday’s match either, but Dos Santos will be on the field for the Galaxy when the clubs face off in Banc of California Stadium. Saturday’s match will be LAFC’s first since the club announced the departures of forward Adam Diomande and club president Tom Penn.
