R.M.N. or as it has been translated for its italian release Wild Animals – Animali Selvatici is, maybe, the most universal film, romanian director Cristian Mungiu has ever made. It is set in a multiethnic village in Transylvania, Romania, during the 2019–20 holiday season.
The original titles comes from the Romanian acronym for nuclear magnetic resonance, as the film is “an investigation of the brain. A brain scan trying to detect things below the surface”. It is also a depiction of our inner struggle, the one with our wildest side, the survival instinct fighting whoever ( or whatever) we feel doesn’t belong. The italian release of Animali Selvatici is July the 6th.
