Luke 10:25-37
October 30, 2022

Main Point:  We glorify God by being obedient in loving our neighbor.

Loving our neighbor means we:

1. Identify who our neighbor is.

  • Luke 10:29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
  • Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
  • Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2. Investigate potential needs.

  • Luke 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
  • Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
  • Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

3. Involve ourselves in the lives of others.

  • Luke 10:34-35 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, [c]when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’
  • Romans 15:1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not just please ourselves. (NASB)
  • James 2:15-17 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, [a]be warmed and be filled,” yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is [b]dead, beingby itself.
