Today on the Friends in Beauty Podcast Akua talks about “Dealing With Grief As A Creative.” This episode is dedicated to her late sister, YaaYaa, who passed away in December 2019.
Dealing with grief as a creative is not easy. It’s hard to operate from a creative space when you don’t feel inspired. Due to the climate of the world right now with social injustices, the Coronavirus, and just living our everyday lives a lot of #FriendsinBeauty have lost loved ones. Death is never convenient and grief is a part of life. So how do you manage to still be your creative self when you’re overcome with grief and sadness?
In this episode, Akua shares her experience dealing with grief as a creative as this is the 2nd sibling she has lost during her time as a Makeup Artist. She shares some insight as to how she managed to keep pushing forward during one of the most difficult times of her life so far and encourages those who are experiencing grief to take the time they need to heal.
Today, August 19th, is her sister YaaYaa’s 27th birthday so Akua decided to do an impromptu episode in her honor. She was a very loving and supportive sister who some #FriendsinBeauty had the pleasure of meeting at some of the Friends in Beauty events and Akua’s classes. She will be missed in the physical and her legacy will continue to live on through all of the lives she has impacted.
