PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Lola Quivoron, director of the film Rodeo.
With her debut feature Rodeo, director Lola Quivoron chooses a non-professional actress Julia Ledru to portray a girl forcing her way into a man’s world, the motocross. The film, screening at the 75th Festival de Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section is a metaphor for the change we’re hoping to see in society. Lola Quivoron reveals how she became friends with the community of riders she already portrayed in her short film Au Loin Baltimore and that the decision of making Rodeo came because of this friendship.
Rodeo: Hot tempered and fiercely independent, Julia finds escape in a passion for motorcycles and the high-octane world of urban ‘Rodeos’ – illicit gatherings where riders show off their bikes and their latest daring stunts. After a chance meeting at a Rodeo Julia finds herself drawn into a clandestine and volatile clique and, striving to prove herself to the ultra-masculine group, she is faced with a series of escalating demands that will make or break her place in the community.
