How do we as VIPs,  learn to recognise the beauty that lies in something that appears on the outside to be broken?

I have often thought about Stargardts, the eye disease that has caused my sight loss, as the part of me that is broken - the part that can’t be used and is of no use to me or anyone else.

My eyes don’t function in the way that others do and this can’t be corrected by wearing glasses or contact lenses.

And at the moment, there is no cure.

Some ordinary tasks are more difficult and take a lot more time and planning than normal if I’m going to be able to do them well.

Are my eyes broken?  I suppose that’s one way of putting it.

Then I start to  think about what we tend to do with things that are broken or no longer of use to us - we find a way  of clearing out and getting rid of those things.

But as VIPs we can’t get rid of our eyes, no matter how severe our level of sight loss is.

What we need to work on is how we can find the beauty, strength and possibility that lies in what appears to be broken.
