It's time to review Ari Aster's feature film debut, Hereditary! This is a movies that we've often discussed on this podcast, but have not yet reviewed and we are overjoyed to finally discuss it and give it the time it deserves. We had a blast reviewing Aster's 2nd movie, Midsommar, back in 2020 and we had so much fun jumping into Hereditary along with our good friend, Melissa Carr.
After Annie's mother dies, her family faces a series of haunting experiences. Hereditary is a type of movie that may not be for everybody. Part drama, part horror, the movie really covers grief and trauma at length, but builds up to a haunting conclusion. It's shot brilliantly with angles that convey character emotions like no horror really has and captures on-screen scares that linger with the viewer. It's a haunting tale that will make you think and sit with you whether you like the movie or not.
