God is glorified when we acknowledge His Holiness and our unworthiness.

A proper reaction to God’s revelations is to say:

1. Depart from me, Lord. (Lk 5:8)

  • Exodus 20:20-21 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
  • Acts 5:12-13 And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. 13 Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.

2. I am a sinful person. (Lk 5:8)

  • Isaiah 6:5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
  • 1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
  • Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

3. I will follow you. (Lk 5:11)

  • Acts 9:6a So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
  • Luke 18:22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
  • Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
