Today I want to talk to you all about just how important your résumé really is.
That is... your life résumé, not that silly little piece of paper that you hand to some guy in a suit in order to hope to be able to spend 40 hours per week for the next years of your life at some place that you hate in order to afford a lifestyle that is barely satisfying.
In this episode, I'm going to cover how you can start living.
Especially if you're young, I think this is something that is missed by a whole bunch of people. Go out and do what you can while you can.
Travel, push yourself, do cool new things, start whatever adventure you want. There's really no better time than now to get started.
Everyone will spend too much time trying to figure out how to build their résumé , polish their résumé, and make it look as "good" as possible. The reason I put "good" in quotes is because really... everyone is trying to just make it look like everyone else's!
We have this idea of what a "good" résumé looks like and we have everybody trying to get theirs to THAT point!
Imagine you're an employer, you have a candidate for a new job walk in, and they hand you their résumé. They have a bachelor's degree in economics, played a sport in school, volunteered with the whatever club, maybe they were president of their class in high school, they were in a sorority, and they joined student government in college, because that means they like to be involved, right?
Honestly, who cares?
Show me the guy that wrote his own book before the age of 24. Show the girl who started selling hair bows when she was 16 years old, and since made thousands of dollars doing so. Show me the guy that took a summer out of his life travelling across the country trying to meet and connect with people that he could interview on his own podcast.
Ambition is the key here, and I truly believe that the world is shifting to a spot where most, if not all, employers are going to care more about THAT than whether or not you were in steering committee in high school.
But I could be wrong.
