Media For All 10 aims to map the changing profiles of stakeholders in the field of Audiovisual Translation and Media Accessibility, practice and research, and elicit the many complex relations in which human agents engage. A clear shift can be detected in this domain, (re)exploring the role of the concept of “agency” in translation today. In this context, Joss Moorkens, Associate Professor at the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies at Dublin City University and one of the keynote speakers at Media For All 10, tells us more about the role of technology, which has been a key catalyst for the development of the field, both of Audiovisual Translation and of Media Accessibility.

Joss Moorkens is an Associate Professor at the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies at Dublin City University, a Funded Investigator and Challenge Leader at the ADAPT Centre, and a member of DCU’s Institute of Ethics and Centre for Translation and Textual Studies. He has authored or coauthored over 50 journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers on translation technology, human factors in translation technology and machine translation, translator precarity, and translation ethics.

He is General Coeditor of the journal Translation Spaces with Prof. Dorothy Kenny, and coedited the book ‘Translation Quality Assessment: From Principles to Practice‘ (Springer, 2018), and special issues of Machine Translation (2019) and Translation Spaces (2020). He is a coauthor of the textbook ‘Translation Tools and Technologies‘ (Routledge 2023). He leads the Technology working group (with Prof. Tomáš Svoboda) as a board member of the European Masters in Translation network and sits on the advisory board of the Journal of Specialised Translation.
