Welcome to another episode of About Podcasting. This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Greg Oldring and Neil McFadran from higheredpods.com, a curated directory of podcasts in the higher education sphere. We delved into what Higher Ed Pods is all about, highlighting its dual role as both a directory for academic podcasts and a community for higher education podcasters.Greg and Neil shared their insights on the importance of community among higher education podcasters and how Higher Ed Pods aims to foster collaboration and discovery. They discussed the unique challenges and opportunities in the higher education podcasting space, including the emphasis on quality content and peer-reviewed information. We also touched on the topic of podcast advertising, the pros and cons of dynamic ad insertion, and the potential for open standards in the podcasting industry. Greg and Neil emphasized the value of host-read ads and the importance of transparency and accessibility, particularly in the higher education sector.Additionally, we explored the future plans for Higher Ed Pods, including the launch of a new podcast that will feature episodes from various higher education podcasts, providing a platform for discovery and engagement. It was a fascinating conversation filled with valuable insights for anyone interested in the intersection of podcasting and higher education.
