"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
A recent post on X discussed the stark reality of our generation's financial woes, specifically the staggering loss of purchasing power in the pound. My reply, perhaps blunt to some, pointed out a different truth: despite the challenges, we are the first generation in over 10,000 years uniquely positioned to embrace a superior form of money - Bitcoin, and that we should be embracing that massive opportunity rather than focusing all our attention on our disadvantages. The reaction to my perspective was (predictably) largely negative.
This episode is my attempt to unpack the initial tweet, aiming to add the nuance often lost on X. It’s a chance to explain why I believe our generation, though dealt a difficult hand, has also been handed a rare opportunity, one that most seem reluctant to grasp.
I dive into why Bitcoin represents a once-in-10,000-year event, how it fundamentally contrasts with the traps of fiat and altcoins, and why conviction, humility, and education are small prices to pay for for the chance to capitalise on this rare monetary changing of the guard. I also tackle the most persistent objections head-on: volatility, scams, energy consumption, and the pervasive misconception that "it's worth nothing."
What surprised me most about the reaction was the sheer volume of misconceptions still circulating, even within circles I might have considered more informed. It's a reminder that sometimes we operate within our own bubbles, unaware of the mainstream narratives still permeating public consciousness. My hope is that this episode can help illuminate some of these fears and misunderstandings for those still on the fence, offering a clearer path through the noise.
