This article is not going to spend a lot of time stating the obvious. No black person in the US today was a slave of the American plantation owners, and no White person today was a slave owner. This is an absurd idea that seeks to support those that were “held down.” The problem is that it seeks to help by holding other people down. It’s something only a government could come up with.
I'm going to attempt making the delicate case for why:
The welfare system has already been attacking this problem for 100 years to no avail
The last thing a black person needs is help from the federal government
This is just an attempt to buy votes, and increase federal tax income
I don't like disclaimers, but I feel this article deserves one. It's true that blacks had it harder in our society throughout our country's history. We're only 1-2 generations removed from the civil rights movement, desegregation, Jim Crow, etc. I do believe that the parents and grandparents of people my age(32) were held down, but I do not believe that I should be held down to make it right.Read the entire article
