Chris Rock's Netflix special "Selective Outrage" throws a heavy blow toward Will Smith from which he may not ever recover. Unlike Smith, who showed a serious lack of discipline by slapping Rock during the Oscars ceremony, Rock patiently waited an entire year before openly discussing the incident that shook the world a year ago.
The move was brilliant. By holding out on interviews or discussions about what happened, Rock was able to negotiate a record setting sum for his next two comedy specials, earning a whopping $40 million dollars for just two shows on the network.
Tonight, I spoke on my podcast, "The Dr Boyce Breakdown" with my wife and therapist, Dr Alicia Watkins, about the strategy of Rock's move, the economics and the deep psychological messaging behind two 50-plus year old black men who ended up fighting in front of the world.
